There are different types of cholesterol present in our body and when the concentration of certain types of cholesterol is elevated then the risk of clots and atherosclerosis plaques as well as cardiovascular complications exists. At the current moment different preparations have been used in treatment of increased cholesterol levels. Among such drugs different groups can be distinguished: - Statin drugs
- Bile acid sequestrants
- Fibric acid derivatives
- Nicotinic acid
- Choleterol absorption inhibitors
The main group of drugs used in treatment of hypercholesterolemia are Statins including: atorvastatin, simvastatin, lovastatin and etc. However if the statins will not achieve the results needed by themselves then they can be combined with all the other types of preparations mentioned above.
